Real letters > junk mail (always)

Hey Friends!

Back in 1979 — the “dark ages,” as I lovingly call them — there was no internet. No cell phones. And long-distance phone calls? Those were for emergencies.

So we wrote letters.

I went off to college that year and wrote to everyone—friends, family, grandparents. They wrote back, and I’d check the mailbox every afternoon like it was a treasure hunt. Not for bills or flyers, but for something real. A little folded-up reminder that I mattered to someone.

I miss that.

This past April, during National Card & Letter Writing Month, I sent out a bunch of notes—birthday cards, thank-yous, just-because scribbles. And the people I sent them to? They felt it. They called or emailed to say how much it meant.

It reminded me how powerful a small note can be.

So I created something to help bring that magic back—two things, actually 💌

Around here, the garden is waking up, the dog is tracking half of it inside, and I’m working on some new summer fabric designs. It’s a little messy and a lot hopeful — kind of like this season.

Over Memorial Day weekend, we were at the family cottage rebuilding the deck my dad built 40 years ago. There was sawdust and sunshine, good food, and plenty of quiet moments to remember those who gave everything. It felt like a weekend full of meaning in the best way.

Thanks, as always, for being here. Your support means more than you know 💛

Happy Writing,
Fran 💛

P.S. I know this is just an email — but if I could send this note on real paper, I would.

If you’d like to get a handwritten card from me sometime, just hit reply and send your mailing address. No pressure — just happy mail.

P.P.S. I’ve been sharing more stories over on Substack —the kind that don’t quite fit in an Instagram caption. If you love slow living, letter writing, and a peek behind the creative curtain, I think you’ll feel right at home there.

Hello friends, The world’s been a little much lately, hasn’t it? So I’m leaning into the small things that still feel good — writing a note, sharing a meal, saying thank you just because. November feels like the perfect time to celebrate those quiet moments of gratitude that happen around kitchen tables and in mailboxes. You might notice something new: Wonderfolds has become Folded Memories. Turns out Hallmark already had a line by that name (because of course they did). After a small...

Hello friends, Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Midwest born and bred, I can’t resist the crunch of leaves underfoot, that soft golden light, and those cool mornings that call for a Pumpkin Spice Latte instead of a second cup of coffee. It’s also my birthday month — which feels like the perfect excuse to celebrate with a few thoughtful treats for you. Before we dive in, a quick note: you might see my emails coming from a new address → hello@francessimonedesign.com. Please add it...

Hey Friends! There’s something about September that feels like a gentle reset. January may get all the attention for fresh starts, but I’ve always thought this month has its own kind of magic — cooler mornings, new rhythms, and the quiet reminder that we can begin again anytime. Wildflower Mornings Notecards As routines settle back in, I find myself reaching for simple tools that keep me grounded. The Wildflower Meadow Notecards & Journal are one of my favorites this time of year — whether...
